There are many causes for the common pink eye -conjunctivitis. The treatments of pink eyes vary based on the causes. Pink eyes do not commonly associate with severe eye pains and sudden onset of blurry vision. Severe eye pain and sudden onset of blurry vision may be the signs of corneal eye infections- keratitis. The best defense against common pink eye is hand washing and keeping hands away from your eyes.
1. Allergic Conjunctivitis : Seasonal or chronic in nature; Itch, watery, eyes with a runny nose. Typically it will affect both eyes same time; Try cold compress, over the counter anti-histamine eye drops for mild cases. For better results or more serious cases ask us about prescription eye drops.
2. Bacterial conjunctivitis: Mildly red irritating eyes with excessive greenish yellow discharges. Eye lids may be sealed together at wake up. It usually infects one eye or sometimes both eyes. Prescription antibiotics may be needed for the treatment.
3. Viral Conjunctivitis: It causes excessive eye watering and a light discharge. It often affects one eye first then the second eye with reduced symptoms. It is the most contagious form of conjunctivitis. The patient may need to stay away from school or work to prevent any kind of spreading of this disease.
